We head to Dover for our afternoon sailing to Calais. We travel through Normandy, arriving early evening in lisieux where dinner will be served.

In the morning, we continue our journey to Brittany. We break our journey at iconic Mont st Michel, a magical island topped by a gravity-defying medieval monastery. Arrive early evening in Concarneau.

Beautiful Benodet and Pont Aven

A relaxing day touring the nearby coastal towns of Finistere, stopping at attractive Benodet, where the River Odet meets the sea and Fouesnant, a charming and authentic Breton village.

We also visit Pont Aven, where Paul Gaugin painted many famous canvases. No visit would be complete without buying some galettes from Biscuiterie Traou Mad, where these butter biscuits were invented in 1920.

Pretty Quimper

We travel to Quimper, considered the cultural heart of Brittany. The town lies on the River Odet and is generally regarded as Brittany’s prettiest, crossed by little bridges. Quimper’s most impressive building is its cathedral, which is said to be the best example of Gothic religious architecture in Brittany. West of the cathedral is the atmospheric old town, where you’ll find many half-timbered houses, dating from the 14th century.

Concarneau Day at Leisure

There is a wonderful beach opposite the hotel. The old town is within walking distance or there is a tourist train. This beautiful old stone fortified ‘town’ has narrow streets filled with shops and restaurants, where geraniums tumble from window boxes.

We sadly say farewell to Concarneau. We break our journey in the attractive medieval walled town of Vannes. Arrive early evening back in lisieux for an overnight stay, before our journey home the following day.
