Lake Achen, Cog Railway & Rattenberg
After a morning at leisure, travel down the Inn Valley to Jenbach and join the original Achenseebahn Cog Railway, which dates back to 1889.
These are some of the oldest steam engines in the world still to be used for public transport.
The train winds its way up above the Inn Valley to the shores of the largest Alpine lake in Tyrol, Lake Achen.
En route back to your hotel make a stop at Rattenberg, the oldest and smallest town in Tyrol, known today as the Tyrolean home of glass and crystal.
Visit one of the showrooms and see the artisans at work.
Ziller Valley Steam Train
On July 31st, 1902 this wonderful narrow-gauge steam train made its first journey from Jenbach to Mayrhofen.
The line almost closed in 1965 to make way for a new road which was being constructed.
Fortunately saved, it still operates along the Ziller Valley to this day. Ride on this nostalgic train from Fügen to Mayrhofen, and enjoy a little schnapps and some folk music along the way.
Innsbruck
We visit innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol, which has twice hosted the Winter Olympics. This beautiful Alpine destination is surrounded by snow-capped mountains.
Sites include the Imperial Palace, Golden Roof and Hofkirche. We enjoy a guided tour and lunch. There will be free time in the city for shopping and sightseeing before we return to our hotel.
The Pinzgauer Narrow Gauge Railway
For more than 100 years this narrow-gauge railway has been winding along the picturesque Salzach Valley to the Hohe Tauern National Park and the Krimml Waterfalls.
These falls are the highest in Europe and the 5th highest in the world.
Walk down to the base of the falls or follow the trail up the side for a close-up experience of this breath-taking spectacle.
This is a must for photographers and nature lovers.
