Visit to Melton Mowbray
In the morning we travel to the old market town of Melton Mowbray, famous for Stilton Cheese and of course pork pies! Melton Mowbray hosts one of the oldest and finest street markets, every Tuesday and Saturday, with stalls selling everything from clothing to fresh produce.
We visit Dickinson and Morris, who have been baking Melton Mowbray Pork Pies since 1851. Watch a personal demonstration of ‘hand raising’ a pork pie and discover how Melton Mowbray became so famous for pork pies. Samples are of course included!
This afternoon, we travel to Burghley House, near Stamford. Burghley is one of the largest and grandest houses of the Elizabethan age.
The state rooms are stunning, with many important treasures and are richly decorated with breathtaking frescoes. The house is surrounded by pleasant parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown.
In the morning we visit the recently opened richard iii Centre in Leicester, which tells his story and how the discovery was made of the bones of the longlost Last Plantagenet King of England, including the actual site.
Modern hotel located on the outskirts of Leicester with leisure facilities. Guests have free access to the hotel’s Living Well Health Club with an 18- metre indoor swimming pool.
