Guided tour of Highgrove
Gloucester Warwickshire Railway journey
Entrance to Sudeley Castle
A Royal treat today, as we visit Highgrove Gardens. HRH The Prince of Wales has spent over 30 years transforming the grounds of Highgrove into a true masterpiece and they have been acknowledged as some of the most inspired and innovative gardens in the United Kingdom.
The garden tour lasts approximately two hours and is a walk of about 2 miles. ALL visitors must bring a form of photo identification with them – we’d suggest driving licence or passport.
Today we enjoy a journey on the Gloucester Warwickshire railway travelling from Cheltenham to Toddington. Enjoy a wonderful experience as the heritage railway hauled by a locomotive gently takes you through the glorious Cotswolds.
Later we visit sudeley Castle and Gardens. Inside the award winning 1,200-acre estate are many fascinating treasures and breathtaking gardens. Sudeley is the only private castle in England to have a queen buried within its grounds – Katherine Parr, the last of Henry VIII’s six wives lies entombed in the beautiful 15th Century church.
We visit Moreton-in-Marsh, where on Tuesday there is a large open farmers' market. We stop at other attractive villages such as Bourton-on-the-Water; the highest village in the Cotswolds, stow-on-the-Wold and Broadway.
En-route home we pay a visit to stratford upon Avon, the birthplace of the Bard.
Well-appointed modern hotel located on the outskirts of Gloucester and ideally placed for exploring the area.
The extensive leisure facilities include a relaxing spa pool, Finnish sauna and a steam room. There is also a fully equipped fitness centre and indoor swimming pool. All the contemporary ensuite rooms feature TV, hair dryers, telephones and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a lift.
