We visit Forde Abbey, one of Britain’s great ‘hidden gems’ for a private guided tour. More than 900 years of history and romance are encapsulated in this elegant former Cistercian monastery and its 30 acres of award-winning gardens. The simple monastic rooms are in contrast to the grand state rooms of the mansion.
We visit the market town of Tiverton, which has a fascinating history. Later we enjoy a wonderful horse-drawn canal trip on the Grand Western Canal, with a delicious Devon cream tea.
This morning we visit Exeter, the county town of Devon. This is a delightful town with a rich history with its cathedral and many good museums including the maritime museum. There’s also a ruined castle and one of the narrowest streets in the world!
Described by John Betjeman as 'a town caught still in a timeless charm’, this pleasant traditional seaside resort which has been popular since Regency times. Beautiful gardens and leisurely walks, clean beaches and friendly shops…. it’s all here in this lovely seaside town that nestles beneath majestic red cliffs and the green hills of the glorious Sid Valley.
Splendid highly-rated hotel, with Regency charm and grandeur in a wonderful position at the centre of Sidmouth’s elegant Esplanade. The Royal York and Faulkner has been family-owned and run for over 60 years and offers high standards of service. The public areas are spacious and this hotel is a firm favourite with our customers. All bedrooms are en-suite and have television and tea/coffee making facilities. There is a lift.
