We enjoy a journey through glorious Sussex countryside to board the preserved bluebell steam Railway. it has the second largest collection of steam trains in the country. we enjoy a one way journey from East Grinstead to sheffield Park. this evening enjoy a bucks fizz reception prior to dinner.
After a leisurely start we travel to the historic town of Battle, with connections to 1066. Later we continue to bateman’s (National Trust, admission extra). This beautiful 17th century manor house near Burwash was the home of Rudyard Kipling from 1902-36. Most of the rooms including the booklined study are as Kipling left them. The delightful grounds are full of variety and colour.
We enjoy a fascinating guided tour of this atmospheric area and in particular the unique group of medieval churches, many of which date from the 12th century. We visit four different churches, each with a unique story with our volunteer guide from Romney Marsh Historic Churches. We enjoy a ploughman’s lunch and tea.
