Arrive mid-afternoon in Eastbourne.
One of the foremost resorts on the south coast, Eastbourne has a wonderful promenade where the ‘carpet gardens’ are a blaze of colour in the summer.
A Victorian Pier, Napoleonic fortress, leisure pool, Sovereign Harbour, Dotto Train, boat trips and a 1930's Bandstand are just a few of the attractions along Eastbourne seafront. Enjoy excellent shopping in the High Street and Arndale Centre. Best of all is the variety of cafes and restaurants, including excellent fish n’chips!
Battle and Hastings.
We travel to Battle, a charming market town which grew up around Battle Abbey, scene of the Battle of Hastings which took place on 14th October 1066.
We continue to the resort of Hastings.
Morning visit to the birthplace of British motor racing, home of the De La Warr Pavilion.
Inspired by the 9th Earl De La Warr, the Pavilion was built in 1935 as a pioneering centre for cultural excellence for local people and visitors alike. In 2005, an £8m redevelopment programme continued that vision, creating an international centre for contemporary art.
Founded as an Augustinian priory in 1229. At the dissolution of the monasteries. the church was demolished.
Transformed into a Tudor gentleman's residence and later a farmhouse, the building was restored in the early part of the 20th century.
Set on a moated island, entrance to the property is gained through the imposing 14th century gatehouse. We have organised a guided tour.
