We follow the Exe Valley and cross Exmoor to Dunster, a picturesque town which is dominated by its castle.
In the afternoon, we enjoy a ride on the scenic West Somerset Railway which runs beside the Quantock Hills for 23 miles, the longest steam heritage line in the country and a country branch line of the old Great Western Railway.
We have included a delicious cream tea on board.
We travel to Sheppy’s Cider near Taunton. We will be taken on foot to their apple orchards. The next stop is one of the vat houses where apple juice is fermented and our ciders are aged in oak and steel.
Finally, we have the chance to experience the 200-year history of Sheppy’s Cider through the artefacts in the rural life museum.
We enjoy a West Country Ploughman’s Lunch, with a piece of Cheddar Cheese, a slice of West country Gammon Ham with Mustard and Pickles; Coleslaw, Lettuce, Tomato, Cucumber and Celery. Slices of Baguette & Butter (drinks extra).
We visit the market town of Barnstaple. Take time to visit the pannier market, which dates from 1855.
In the afternoon, we visit Quince honey Farm, with a guided tour of Beeworld and a tasting.
On our return journey, we visit the Cheddar Gorge Cheese Company for a demonstration at the only remaining cheesemaker in Cheddar.
