This morning we pay a visit to Berkeley Castle, one of the March castles built originally to keep the Welsh out, it is also the home to the Berkeley family who have been in residence for over 850 years! We enjoy a tour of this magnificent castle. After our visit we board our boat for a River Cruise to Gloucester with refreshments on the boat. This afternoon we pay a visit to Gloucester Cathedral for a tour and follow the story of King Edward II who was murdered at Berkeley Castle and then buried in the Cathedral.
This morning we make our way along the lush meadows to the perfect picture-postcard village of Stow-on-the-Wold, enjoy time to explore the ancient market square surrounded by dozens of independent antique shops, next we call at the “Little Venice of the Cotswolds” Bourton on Water, this idyllic village is regularly voted the prettiest village in England. This afternoon we visit the 16th Century Elizabethan era - Chavenage Manor, used as a location for a number of films, including Poldark, Tess of the D'Urbervilles, In Love with Barbara, Lark Rise to Candleford and the Mysterious Affair at Styles. We enjoy a guided tour of the house by member of the family, this is followed by Afternoon Tea in the Great Hall.
Following a leisurely breakfast, we make the short journey in to the medieval town of Tewkesbury and the beautiful Tewkesbury Abbey. We enjoy a guided tour of the Abbey and then spend some free time to explore the town centre. This afternoon we visit one of England’s oldest and largest vineyards nestled deep in the Cotswolds, Three Choirs Vineyard. Enjoy a guided tour starting in the vineyard and then visiting the winery with 4 wines to taste along the way. Afterwards enjoy a cheeseboard featuring some of our best local cheeses accompanied by a glass of wine of your choice from list of wines available by the glass.
En-route home we pay a visit to Stratford upon Avon, the famous birthplace of Shakespeare and a lovely town with its half-timbered 16th century buildings and many unique shops.
A short walk away from Tewkesbury Abbey and set within 176 acres of beautiful parkland, this traditional 4-star hotel has just undergone major refurbishment. The ‘Garden Restaurant’ is the hotel’s main restaurant offering traditional English and European cuisine plus there’s two separate bars, one of which, the Spike Bar, provides beautiful views overlooking the Malvern Hills.
