Full day tour to Lakes Lugano and Como. We drive north towards the snow-capped peaks of the Alps and onwards to Lake Lugano.
The palm and cypress lined promenade give Lugano a Mediterranean feel. We continue to dramatic Lake Como, surrounded by mountains and dotted with attractive lakeside villages and towns.
We travel to Tremezzo, where we visit the beautiful gardens at Villa Carlotta. These formal gardens, which were laid out in the 19th century are beautiful, with pretty fountains and impressive sculptures.
We drive to the mountain town of Domodossola for a ride on the Centovalli train to Locarno. This scheduled train service travels through the wild and romantic ‘One Hundred Valleys’ region.
The attractive Swiss lakeside town of Locarno has many fine buildings including a 12th century castle and the pilgrimage church of Madonna del Sasso. The heart of the city is the Piazza Grande, well-known for its annual film festival.
We take a cruise ferry around the beautiful Borromean islands.
The ferry stops at the beautiful islands of isola Bella, Pescatori (lunch break) and isola Madre.
The island house some delightful gardens and Isola Bella boasts a palatial residence you can visit (admission extra).
This unspoilt area comes complete with towering peaks, lush forests, sparkling waters and historic towns.
Orta san Giulio is well worth some exploration with its narrow, cobbled streets, cafés, restaurants and views across the lake to the neighbouring island.
Return to Stresa via Borgomanero.
Superb traditional hotel in an excellent location, directly on the promenade and just a few minutes' stroll from the lovely centre of Stresa.
Also includes overnight stays at Mercure Hotel Forbach Centre (both ways)
